The LHCb Vertex Locator - Production and Commissioning
Speaker:Dr. Kurt Rinnert (Univ. of Liverpool, Dept. of Physics and CERN)
Abstract:The LHCb experiment is one of the four large experimental facilities at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. It is designed to perform high precision measurements of B meson decays. To this end it is necessary to precisely locate collision and decay vertices. This is the task of the LHCb Vertex Locator (VELO). The VELO is a fast, high resolution silicon microstrip detector operating in a harsh radiation environment extremely close to the LHC proton beams. The presentation covers the production and commissioning of the VELO, focussing on the VELO modules that were successfully designed and built to very challenging specifications.
