| Abstract: | In this talk, I will show how to realize at null infinity the logarithmic supertranslations previously identified at spatial infinity. These new symmetries have several important features. In particular, they admit a central extension with the pure supertranslations, which allows us to define a notion of angular momentum that is invariant under supertranslations. Moreover, their associated charge is the supertranslation Goldstone mode, providing a way to label different vacuum states. Together, these results show that the log BMS algebra—the extension of the BMS algebra by logarithmic supertranslations—is essential for describing the classical phase space of asymptotically flat spacetimes.
