The Status of the String Landscape
Speaker:Savdeep Sethi (University of Chicago)
Abstract:im Rahmen des Seminars für Mathematische Physik (Joint TU/UV Theory Seminar) und des ESI-Programms "Higher Spins and Holography": Whether string theory admits a multiverse of de Sitter solutions that look approximately like our universe is a hotly debated current topic. I will overview the basics of landscape constructions and explain my view on this question.

Yamabe invariants and Cheeger constant on Poincaré-Einstein manifolds
Speaker:Simon Raulot (Université de Rouen, Frankreich)
Abstract:as part of the joint relativity-geometric analysis seminar: In the first part of this talk, we present an elementary proof of the rigidity of the hyperbolic space as the unique Poincaré-Einstein manifold whose boundary at infinity is the conformal round sphere. The proof relies on an inequality which relates the Yamabe invariant of the boundary with the one of a compactification of the bulk manifold. In a second part, we relate the Cheeger constant of such manifolds with the conformal type of the boundary at infinity . More precisely, we prove that this constant is exactly the dimension of the interior of the Poincaré-Einstein manifold if and only if the Yamabe invariant of the boundary is non negative. Several applications are then discussed.

New Fayet-Iliopoulos terms and supersymmetric Born Infeld actions
Speaker:Magnus Tournoy (Leuven)
Abstract:I'll present a new way of embedding Fayet-Iliopoulos terms (FI terms) in supergravity. The construction relies on the non-linear nature of broken supersymmetry. It combines many of the tools and properties of non-linear supersymmetry that have been developed and (re-)learned over the past years. I'll explain why and how. In the second part of the talk arguments suggesting that the new FI terms might find a natural habitat in the string pheno model building landscape will be explored. We'll focus mostly on the relation of the new FI terms with supersymmetric Born-Infeld actions.
