Simulating double soft gluon emission |
Speaker: | Peter Majcen (University of Vienna) |
Abstract: | Particle collisions with large momentum transfer and coloured particles can be in principle computed using perturbative QCD.
However in this context it is possible that terms of order $\alpha_s^n L^m$, where $L$ is a large logarithm arise. Such terms originate
from gluon emission where the energy is small in comparison to the large momentum transfer of the process. Non global observables
are sensitive to such emissions. In my talk I will present how such contribution from single and double soft gluon emission could be resummed in a Monte Carlo simulation.

The non-linear stability of the Schwarzschild family of black holes |
Speaker: | Gustav Holzegel (Imperial, London) |
Abstract: | Joint Relativity-Geometric Analysis seminar: I will discuss recent work with M. Dafermos, I. Rodnianski and M. Taylor proving the full finite codimension asymptotic stability of the Schwarzschild family of black holes in the exterior of the black hole region. The proof is expressed entirely in physical space and based on our previous understanding of linear stability of the Schwarzschild family in a double null gauge.

C-parameter hadronisation in the symmetric 3-jet limit and the strong coupling |
Speaker: | Pier Monni (CERN) |
Abstract: | Hadronisation corrections are crucial in extractions of the strong coupling constant from event-shape distributions at lepton colliders. Although their dynamics cannot be understood rigorously using perturbative methods, their dominant effect on physical observables can be estimated in singular configurations sensitive to the emission of soft radiation. The differential distributions of some event-shape variables, notably the C parameter, feature two such singular points. I will discuss the calculation of the leading non-perturbative correction in the symmetric three-jet limit for this observable, and find that it differs by more than a factor of two from the known result in the two-jet limit. This result is used to estimate the uncertainty due to the description of non-perturbative corrections in strong coupling extractions from experimental data, finding effects of up to 3-4% relative to ... |
