Constraining neutron star matter with QCD |
Speaker: | Aleksi Vuorinen (University of Helsinki) |
Abstract: | Next to black holes, the cores of neutron stars are the densest systems
known in nature, and thus provide a unique laboratory for studying the
properties of cold and dense strongly interacting matter. In my talk, I
will first review what is known about such matter from first principles
calculations at low and extremely high densities, and then argue how
combining these insights it is possible to predict the composition and
properties of neutron stars with controllable error bars. |

Jet quenching enhancement around phase transition from dynamical holographic QCD model |
Speaker: | Prof. Mei Huang (Institute of High Energy Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Beijing) |
Abstract: | The phase transition and jet quenching parameter have been investigated in the framework
of dynamical holographic QCD model. It is found that both the trace anomaly and the ratio
of the jet quenching parameter over cubic temperature show a peak around the critical temperature,
and the ratio of jet quenching parameter over entropy density sharply rises at Tc.
This indicates that the jet quenching parameter can characterize the phase transition. The effect
of jet quenching parameter enhancement around phase transition on nuclear modification factor and
elliptic flow have also been analyzed, and it is found that the temperature dependent jet quenching
parameter from dynamical holographic QCD model can considerably improve the description of jet
quenching azimuthal anisotropy as compared with the conformal case. |

Symmetries of N=(4,4) non-linear sigma models |
Speaker: | Roberto Volpato (AEI Potsdam) |
Abstract: | Two-dimensional conformal field theories with N=(4,4) superconformal symmetry and central charge 6 arise in compactifications of type II superstrings to six (or less) spacetime dimensions with 16 spacetime supersymmetries. There are two (known) classes of such conformal field theories, namely supersymmetric non-linear sigma models on a K3 surface or on a torus of real dimension four. I will discuss the main properties of these two classes of models and, in particular, the classification of the groups of symmetries that fix the N=(4,4) superconformal algebra. |

Heavy quark mass determinations from jets |
Speaker: | Bahman Dehnadi (Univ. Wien) |
Abstract: | In this talk I will present predictions for the thrust distribution of
massive jet production at NNLL.The approach is based on sequences of
three different effective field theoretic setups, constructed according
to hierarchy of relevant mode scales, to describe the entire thrust
distribution. The results shows a strong mass-dependence of jet
observable that can be used to measure heavy quark masses without
replying on MC generators. In particular it is also our aim to test
and understand the mass parameters of MC generators, which is essential
for precise measurement of top mass.
