CoQuS colloquium - Seminar Talk by Dmitry Budker
Speaker:Dmitry Budker (Universität Wien)
Abstract:This talk will cover some recent applications of magnetometers, including nuclear magnetic resonance without magnets (!) as well other magnetometer adventures including measuring magnetic fields in the mesosphere using sodium laser guide stars and searching for ultralight cosmic particles that may be part of the Dark Matter (one of the major embarrassments of modern science for its failure to determine what Dark Matter consists of after many years of consorted efforts).
Date: Mon, 16.01.2017
Time: 16:30
Location:Lise Meitner Hörsaal, Strudlhofgasse 4, 1st floor, Vienna

Four-dimensional Vasiliev Theory: An Introduction
Speaker:Pan Kessel (MPI für Gravitationsphysik Potsdam)
Abstract:im Rahmen des Seminars für Mathematische Physik: In this talk, I will give a lightning introduction to four-dimensional Vasiliev Theory which is a non-linear field theory containing massless gauge fields with spin greater than 2. I will review its basic formulation and sketch its applications in the context of AdS/CFT.
Date: Tue, 17.01.2017
Time: 14:15
Duration: 60 min
Location:Fakultät für Physik, Erwin-Schrödinger-Hörsaal, Boltzmanngasse 5, 5. Stock
Contact:S. Fredenhagen, H. Steinacker

A simplified functional approach for integrating out heavy particles
Speaker:Pedro Ruiz Femenia (Technische Universität München)
Abstract:im Rahmen des Teilchenphysikseminars

Time: 16:15
Duration: 60 min
Location:Fakultät für Physik, Erwin-Schrödinger-Hörsaal, Boltzmanngasse 5, 5. Stock
Contact:A. Hoang, H. Neufeld

Many body physics using tensor networks
Speaker:Frank Verstraete (Vienna)
Abstract:Joint Theoretical Physics Seminar: We will describe how the theory of entanglement provides a novel language for describing quantum many body systems. We will demonstrate how the ensuing quantum tensor n etworks allow for the classification of topological quantum phases of matter.

Time: 14:00
Duration: 60 min
Location:Arbeitsgruppe Gravitation, Währinger Strasse 17, Victor-Franz-Hess-Hörsaal, Kavalierstrakt, 1. Stock
Contact:P.T. Chrusciel, A. Hoang, S. Fredenhagen
