Correlation atom pair production in Bose-Einstein condensate collisions |
Speaker: | Aurélien PERRIN (Laboratoire de l'Institut d'Optique, Orsay, Paris) |
Abstract: | In a recent experiment we have measured correlations between pairs of atoms scattered from two colliding Bose-Einstein condensates. The s-wave scattering sphere is detected after a time of flight by a single atom detector resolved in time and position. The study of the second order correlation function proves the existence of correlated atom pairs among atoms scattered in opposite directions. Viewed as a random source of indiscernable bosons, the s-wave scattering sphere shows also Hanbury Brown Twiss like correlations. The pair production we have demonstrated can be viewed as a first step toward experiments in which entanglement between atoms in position and momentum might be observed and manipulated. |
