Emergent geometries in the BMN matrix model |
Speaker: | Yuhma Asano (Dublin Institute for Advaned Studies) |
Abstract: | im Rahmen des Seminars für Mathematische Physik: The BMN matrix model was proposed as a non-perturbative formulation of M-theory in the plane-wave background geometry with maximal supersymmetry. A couple of years later, half-BPS geometries with the same symmetry as the BMN matrix model were constructed, and a gauge/gravity duality between them was conjectured. We calculated exact BPS operators in the BMN matrix model by using the localisation method and found that they are equivalent to the equations of the corresponding geometries. This result is a new evidence of this gauge/gravity duality and explains how the corresponding geometries embed in the gauge theory. I will review the gauge/gravity duality and explain how to obtain the emergent geometries from the BMN matrix model. |

Ternary oxides at the two-dimensional limit: Metal-Tungstate Nanolayers on Metal Surfaces |
Speaker: | Ao.Univ.Prof. Dr. Svetlozar Surnev (Surface and Interface Physics Division, Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz) |
Abstract: | Metal tungstates with the general formula MWO4 (M denotes a bivalent metal cation) belong to a fascinating family of inorganic functional materials possessing a high application potential in various fields, such as in photoluminescence, photoanodes, electrochromic systems, humidity sensors, magnetic properties and catalysis. Metal tungstate compounds have been synthesized mostly in bulk form, but with the advance of nanotechnologies there is a growing interest in preparing MWO4 structures at the nanoscale, whose physical and chemical properties are unexplored as yet. I will show that two-dimensional (2-D) ternary oxide MWOx nanolayers can be fabricated in a well-ordered manner on single crystal metal surfaces using different epitaxial growth routes based on a solid-state chemical reaction in two dimensions. One preparation approach involves the interfacial reaction of (WO3)3 clusters, ge |

Optical investigation of pressure induced superconducting state in iron pnictide superconductors |
Speaker: | Ece Uykur (Universitaet Augsburg) |
Abstract: | Iron pnictide superconductors are multiband high temperature superconductors that show a magnetically ordered spin-density-wave (SDW) state in their parent compound. Studies showed that the superconducting (SC) state emerges with either chemical doping or external pressure. External pressure is a clean way to introduce superconductivity, while one can avoid the complications arise from the dopants. Hence, the investigation of the superconducting state under pressure can give valuable information of the intrinsic properties of iron pnictides.
In this talk, I will show our recent temperature dependent optical reflectivity data taken on BaFe2(As1-xPx)2 single crystals with x = 0 and 0.2 up to 5 GPa.

Lesser-known facts about Hawking radiation |
Speaker: | Helmut Rumpf (Univ. Vienna) |
Abstract: | im Rahmen des Literaturseminars für Gravitationsphysik: The first fact I will discuss is that Hawking radiation is primarily not an effect of
black-hole physics, or even General Relativity, but of a more general character that
points towards a simple solution of the so-called black hole information paradox.
The second fact concerns the difference between ordinary thermal and Hawking radiation.
