Plasma polymers and nanocomposites: Tin/n-hexane plasma polymer and its electrical properties
Speaker:Jindrich Matousek (Charles University Prague/CZ)
Abstract:Nanocomposite films of metal or metal oxide with polymer matrix represent a class of promising materials. This talk will give a general description of plasma polymers and introduce basic deposition techniques for plasma polymers and metal/plasma polymer composite materials. Sn / n-hexane plasma polymers are characterised according to chemical composition and electrical properties.

Emergent gravity from Yang-Mills matrix models
Speaker:Harold Steinacker (University of Vienna)
Abstract:We explain how simple pre-geometric matrix models lead to "emergent" quantized space or space-time, equipped with an effective theory of gravity. Some aspects of the low-energy description are discussed, which besides an effective metric also involves a dynamical Poisson tensor. Certain preferred models can be expected to be well-behaved under quantization, thus providing a novel approach towards a quantum theory of gravity.

Magnons in the D1-D5 system
Speaker:Sahoo Bindusar (ICTP)
Abstract:Integrability in AdS/CFT has played an important role in understanding the spectrum of N=4 SYM in the planar limit. Although strings in AdS_3 \times S^3 (which arises in the near horizon geometry of a D1-D5 system) are found to be classically integrable, such integrable structures are yet to be discovered in the dual CFT. In this talk we will focus on "magnon like excitations" in D1-D5 system and study the effect of integrability on its spectrum. We will first introduce such excitations and then study its S-matrix using certain semiclassical methods developed earlier by various people like dressing phase method and finite gap method. We will show that it obeys certain Unitary relations implied by crossing symmetry. We will discuss certain limitations and open problems.
