Quantum field theory in deSitter spacetime
Speaker:Prof. Stefan Hollands (Universität Leipzig)
Abstract:In this talk, I review properties of the so-called "deSitter spacetime", and some properties of quantum field theories that live on this spacetime. The investigation of such theories is highly relevant to cosmology, because deSitter space is thought to describe the earliest epoch of our universe, at least to some approximation. It is also interesting from a Mathematical viewpoint, because deSitter space is a space with maximal symmetry, making possible several explicit constructions and investigations that would be out of reach in quantum field theories on more general Lorentzian manifolds.

Why the eclipse of the sun is a danger for our electricity supply
Speaker:Dr. Gerhard Lakits, Dr. Katharina Igenbergs-Satlow (Energy Management Applications / Siemens AG Austria)
Abstract:The eclipse of the sun is one example for extreme effects coming from renewable generation on the stability of electrical grids. This and other effects will be presented by the authors together with modern tools making the electrical grids ‘smart’.

Glauber Gluons and Multiple Parton Interactions
Speaker:Jonathan Gaunt (DESY, Hamburg)
Abstract:im Rahmen des Teilchenphysikseminars:I will discuss two pieces of work related to Glauber modes and multiple parton interactions (MPI): 1) I will show that for certain 'MPI sensitive' observables, such as hadronic transverse E_T, the standard factorisation formula with hard, collinear and soft functions fails to completely describe the leading power behaviour. I will show that this breakdown in the standard factorisation occurs at the level of two Glauber gluons exchanged between spectators, and discuss the connection between these noncancelled Glauber exchanges and soft MPI. [Based on JHEP 1407 (2014) 110]. 2) I will discuss the role of Glauber exchanges in hard double parton scattering (DPS). I will demonstrate the cancellation of Glauber modes in the double Drell-Yan process, using similar methodology as was used by Collins, Soper and Sterman for single Drell-Yan

Superfluidity versus Bose Einstein Condensation
Speaker:Jakob Yngvason (Univ. Wien)
Abstract:Joint Theoretical Physics Seminar: The two concepts in the title stand for two distinct quantum phenomena whose relation to one another is not obvious although they often occur together. Moreover, there is not a unique concept of superfluidity. In the talk I shall first comment on these general issues and then discuss a simple model involving a tunable random potential where some precise statements can be rigorously proved. The latter is joint work with M.Könenberg, T. Moser and R. Seiringer.
