Control problems of the LARGE-volume scenario
Speaker:Daniel Junghans (TU Wien)
Abstract:The simplest explanation for the accelerated expansion of our universe is that we live in an (approximate) de Sitter space. In this talk, I will review the LARGE-volume scenario (LVS), which is one of the most popular proposals for obtaining meta-stable de Sitter vacua in string theory. I will also discuss a number of corrections to the leading effective potential in this scenario and argue that, for the case of anti-brane uplifts, some of these corrections always blow up when the vacuum energy is naively positive. This suggests that LVS dS vacua are not under control. The result is in line with a number of other recent results suggesting that string theory cannot have dS vacua in a parametrically controlled regime.
