On Some Symmetries in string theory, the Phases of Gravity and the Properties of the Long Time Behavior in Quantum Field Theories

Abstract:We review a set of very surprising symmetries among them a form of holography. We discuss how to identify possible phases of gauge and gravitational systems. The emergence of a black hole phase leads to puzzles concerning the large-time behavior of correlation functions in the presence of black holes. Understanding is gained by studying the interesting properties and various time scales determining the very long-time behavior of correlation functions in quantum field theory.
