The image on the cover shows the density of a quantum state (top) and a corresponding classical trajectory (bottom, mirror image) in a "quantum dot". The electron is injected from the left and gets trapped in the vicinity of a periodic orbit. This phenomenon is rejected in the quantum wavefunction in terms of a pronounced density enhancement around this "pretzel"-shaped trajectory. Numerical calculations allow to study in detail the quantum-to-classical correspondence in such mesoscopic devices which have been realized experimentally. For details see B. Weingartner et al., Phys. Rev. B 72, 115342 (2005).
