Quantum fermions from classical statistics

Abstract:Quantum mechanics can be obtained from classical statistics. It arises if the time evolution of the probability distribution follows an appropriate law, and if correlation functions appropriate for suitable subsystems are used for a description of measurements. As an example, we formulate an evolution law for the classical probability distribution for Ising-spins. This describes a quantum field theory for Dirac fermions in external electromagnetic fields. The one - particle states obey in the non-relativistic limit the Schroedinger equation. The usual rules of quantum mechanics, as interference, uncertainty relation, tunneling, or discrete energy levels for stationary states, all follow from a suitable time evolution of a classical statistical ensemble. We also introduce the concept of a classical wave function for the description of classical statistics.
