From geometry to high-energy scattering in N=4 Super Yang Mills at all order

Abstract:im Rahmen des Joint TU/UV Theory Seminars: The N=4 Super Yang-Mills theory is believed to be the first example of an integrable gauge quantum field theory in 4 space-time dimensions. In recent years, it was discovered that there are deep connections relating scattering amplitudes in this theory to concepts in modern geometry and number theory. I show that by focusing on the high-energy limit, it is possible to combine the insight from integrability and modern mathematics to obtain results for all scattering amplitudes in this limit at any order in perturbation theory.

Direct Force Measurements in Aqueous and Non-Aqueous Solutions

Abstract:In recent years, measurements of interactions between solid surfaces across liquids brought interesting new fundamental results, which gave insight in microscopic structure of highly concentrated ionic systems. Furthermore, these kind of forces are also important in many industrial applications. In order to better understand mechanisms of such interactions we measure the forces between negatively charged particles with the colloidal probe technique, which is based on atomic force microscope (AFM). In my talk I will present our recent work, where we explore the influence of like-charged polyelectrolytes on double-layer forces, see Fig. 1a [1,2]. At higher concentrations of polyelectrolytes and larger distances, oscillatory structural forces are observed. While at smaller separation distances the non-exponential electrostatic forces appear. An overview on TMD formalism and its phenomenological status

Abstract:The factorization of differential cross sections for Drell-Yan, semi-inclusive DIS has been subject to strong developments in recent years. Several matrix elements are now computed at higher orders in perturbation theory, lattice calculations are starting and analyses of data including LHC are performed. Several other aspects need a deeper study like the use of jets, and the polarized cross sections. I will review all these aspects, pointing to future developments in theory and experiments.

Existence of infinitely many solutions for the Einstein-Lichnerowicz system

Abstract:We will consider in this talk the Einstein-Lichnerowicz system of equations. It originates in General Relativity as a way to determine initial-data sets for the evolution problem. This system takes the form of a strongly coupled, supercritical, nonlinear system of elliptic PDEs. We will investigate its blow-up properties and show that, in large dimensions, it possesses a non-compact family of solutions. This family of solutions will be constructed by combining toplogical methods with a finite-dimensional reduction approach; due to the non-variational structure of the system, the latter has to be carried on in strong spaces and relies of a priori blow-up estimates that we shall describe.

Black strings and compactifications in Lovelock Gravity

Abstract:Originally, black strings in anti de-Sitter spacetime cannot be obtained by means of a simple oxidation, this means, by the mere inclusion of extended planar coordinates on the spacetime, contrary to the case of asymptotically flat black holes. In this talk we will show how to construct homogeneous anti de-Sitter black strings in General Relativity and in Lovelock gravity by using a suitable dressing of the extended coordinates. Then, we will show how this relates with direct product compactifications on internal manifolds of constant curvature. Some issues about the stability of these solutions will be also discussed.
