Light q-qbar mesons and Glueballs

Abstract:The status of light q-qbar mesons and glueballs will be reviewed. The majority of the data comes from the Crystal Barrel experiment at CERN. Mesons appear in towers centred near masses M=1275, 1650, 2000 and 2300 MeV and fall on to nearly straight Regge trajectories of M^2 v. excitation number n=1 - 4. Candidates for glueballs with spin-parity J^P=0^+ appear in the mass range 1500 to 1810 MeV in rough agreement with predictions from Lattice QCD calculations. The talk will discuss prospects of identifying this glueball more precisely. There is also evidence for hybrids (q-qbar-g) in the mas range 1650 to 1900 MeV. A further point concerns cusps which appear at the opening of thresholds, for example the f_0(980) and a_0(980) at the K-Kbar threshold and f2(1565) at the omega-omega threshold.
