Developing and testing models for inflation and dark energy
Speaker:Gianmassimo Tasinato (Institute for Cosmology and Gravitation, Portsmouth University, UK)
Abstract:In the first part of my presentation, I will give an overview of my work on early universe cosmology and on dark energy model building. In the second part, I will focus on a brief review of my recent work on modifications of General Relativity to explain the current acceleration of our universe. I will conclude the talk with a discussion of my future research projects.

Recents Developments in Non-Perturbative QFT in Curved Spacetimes
Speaker:Mauricio Leston (University of Buenos Aires)
Abstract:The so-called constructive QFT approach has provided several examples of interacting QFT for D=2 and D=3 Minkowski spacetime. That was done by the use of a well defined Euclidean functional integral. Some years ago, certain steps of this approach have been extended to D=2 static spacetimes. In this talk I will briefly review the Euclidean formulation of QFT in Minkowski space time, with special emphasis on the notion of reflection positivity and its importance in the constructive quantum field theory approach. Then, I will describe its recent extension to static spacetimes and some open problems.

Carbon Nanomembranes (CNMs): Two-dimensional Functional Materials visualized by Helium Ion Microscopy (HIM)
Speaker:Prof. Dr. Armin Gölzhäuser (University of Bielefeld, Faculty of Physics, Bielefeld/Germany)
Abstract:One nanometer thick, mechanically stable carbon nanomembranes (CNMs) are fabricated by radiation induced cross-linking of molecular monolayers. The resulting CNMs can be spanned free-standing over openings or used to cover other materials. They are chemically functionalized by coupling other molecules to its top and bottom surfaces. Upon pyrolysis at ~1000K, CNMs transform into graphene. Stacking of CNMs creates hybrid materials with tailored mechanical, optical and electrical properties. We image CNMs with a helium ion microscope. In this technique a focused He+ beam of ~0.3 nm diam. is scanned to generate images with topographical and chemical contrast.
