Correlation Effects on Topological Insulators
Speaker:Norio Kawakami ( Kyoto University)
Abstract:Topological insulators have attracted much attention as a new research platform in condensed matter physics. We discuss the correlation effects on topological insulators by applying dynamical mean field theory to a generalized Bernevig-Hughes-Zhang model (i.e. a correlated two-band model with spin-orbit interaction). We discuss (i) an interaction-driven phase transition between the topological and Mott insulators, (ii) a topologically non-trivial antiferromagnetic insulator and (iii) a new exotic phase "spin-selective topological Kondo insulator", where a topological Kondo insulator is embedded in a ferromagnetic metal.

Ferroelectricity in ferroelastic twin boundaries (& tweed) and their dynamics
Speaker:Prof. Ekhard Salje (Cambridge University/U.K.)
Abstract:A new approach to generate functional materials and to investigate the dynamics of jamming avalanches is to engineer functional interfaces. I will discuss the special case of functional twin boundaries which were superconducting in an insulating matrix or ferroelectric in a paraelectric bulk. Functionalities and their origins will be discussed.

Search for Muon to Electron Conversion at J-PARC - COMET experiment
Speaker:Yoshitaka KUNO (Osaka)
Abstract:Muon to electron conversion in a muonic atom is a process of charged lepton flavor violation (CLFV). The COMET experiment aims to search for muon to electron conversion at J-PARC with single-event sensitivity of 3x10-17. which is about 10,000 improvement over the current limit. Recently the COMET experiment has taken a staged approach. COMET Phase-I. as the first phase, aims at a single-event sensitivity of 3x10-15 with a partial part of the full muon beam line and a Phase-I dedicated detector in the order of about 10^6 sec. The funds for COMET Phase-I has been approved as the supplemental budget, and the construction will start in 2013. The physics run is expected to start in 2016 or so. The COMET Phase-II will follow immediately. In this talk, I will describe physics motivation of CLFV, and the details of COMET Phase-I / Phase-II, with the present status of Phase-I.
